“If we are supposed to forgive others 70 times 7, then perhaps we should be willing to ask for forgiveness at that same rate.”
-Dr. Andrea Luxton in a meeting with Garrison, Danni Francis & Esther Battle.
Hello, everyone! Welcome back to the #iNGREDiENTS podcast!
In Episode 009, I finish up my discussion with Garrison Hayes. We recorded this discussion on February 27, 2017.
If you have not listened to Part One of my discussion with Garrison, you can do so here.
Garrison received his Bachelors Degree in Film Production from Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, TN and is currently pursuing his Masters of Divinity at the Andrews University Theological Seminary in Berrien Springs, MI. Garrison is passionate about ministering to young adults and building social consciousness through open and honest dialogue.
My blog post introducing Episode 008 broke down the context for this conversation.
In Part Two of my discussion with Garrison, we finish up our dialogue on the social media response that he and others connected to #ItIsTimeAU received. Garrison talks about the meeting that he, Danni Francis & Esther Battle had with AU President Dr. Andrea Luxton and AU Provost Dr. Criston Arthur on the Tuesday after the video’s release. We dialogue about the Thursday Chapel that book-ended this two week journey as Garrison shares his reflections on that monumental day. I also ask Garrison about what “Phase 2” would have entailed if the University had not responded in one week as was requested. Finally, we talked about the powerful sermon that Dr. Dwight Nelson delivered at Pioneer Memorial Church on the Sabbath after the Thursday chapel. You can check out that sermon here:
I want to once again thank Garrison for taking the time to speak with us and commend him as well as Chaplain Michael Polite & AU Student’s Angie Powels, Warren Gillin, Esther Battle, Leah Wooten, Ben Lee, Jannel Monroe, Joy Chikwekwe and Danni Francis for their bravery and boldness. It will be interesting to see how things continue to develop going forward.
