Hello everyone! I am excited to share Episode 001 of #iNGREDiENTS with you which I recorded with my father, Dr. Timothy P. Nixon, on July 24, 2016. My dad serves as the Executive Secretary for the Lake Region Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists.
In this episode, my dad tells us about his New York origins (audio issues) (2:18); what Seventh-Day Adventism is and how the Nixon family came into the church (5:16); his earliest cognizance of racism [the assassinations of JFK & MLK] (11:10); his experience during college in the South (19:01); the effects of redlining & other forms of discrimination on his family and how his mother fought to overcome them (26:30); the recent Public Affairs & Religious Liberties Conference sponsored by the Lake Region Conference (30:55); and the church’s involvement [or the lack thereof] in social justice issues (36:35).
As I mentioned in this week’s introduction, there were some recording issues that I experienced during certain parts of our conversation. I truly do apologize for those and will work hard to improve the sound quality in the future. I take the quality of this podcast very seriously and am committed to ensuring that you have a pleasant listening experience.
